Climate events are becoming more extreme, and American cities are stepping up as leaders in building resilience and mitigating the impact of climate change. Stormwater management will be a key area of concern for cities as the frequency and severity of rainfall events continue to rise.

Focus on stormwater management

Traditional drainage systems are often not enough to handle extreme weather events like Hurricane Ida, that caused massive damage in the Northeast and along the Gulf Coast. More modern stormwater strategies, like larger water storage systems and delayed runoff solutions, can be integrated into urban landscapes.


Collaborating for success

Cities are breaking down silos to nurture partnerships with stakeholders. Private industry, the public sector and academic institutions all have a part to play in working toward innovative solutions.
