The challenge

When the relocation of the famous engineering school was announced, the Châtenay-Malabry municipality saw the opportunity to create an eco-district open to the town. In a prime position on the edge of the Sceaux park, it is an area of town that had to be developed.

But the diverse landscapes of neighboring residential areas and the Sceaux park mean designing the new district in harmony with its environment. The magnitude of the operation adds additional complexity: the eco-district will be constructed in several phases and there will be numerous companies involved, all with different working cultures.

The solution

Aware of this pressing need for consistency, the SEMOP (a single-operation public-private partnership, owned in part by the town) chose Arcadis to coordinate the project's various stakeholders using innovative CIM (City Information Management) processes. These processes make it possible to create a digital mock-up of the project and share it with partners.

Thanks to this innovative approach, Arcadis can monitor the design and construction of each building and public space, in close collaboration with the project's stakeholders. The collaborative digital mock-up thus gives Arcadis an overview of the project and its surroundings and enables it to ensure the consistency of future buildings, not only with their environment but also with each other. It also gives a precise view of the area both aboveground and underground (underground networks for water, electricity, gas, etc.) and calculates the carbon footprint.

The impact

The Ecole Centrale will give way to a new 20-hectare neighborhood, featuring housing, services and places to stroll around.

Live close to several schools (elementary schools and high schools), a daycare center and a gym. Stroll through eight hectares of gardens. Do your shopping and visit an urban farm on your doorstep. Live on the edge of the Sceaux park. This is the lifestyle that will be on offer to future residents of the LaVallée eco-district in Châtenay-Malabry, named after the founder of the Ecole Centrale, Alphonse LaVallée.

Creating 30,000 m2 of offices will also promote the town's economic development. In addition, the arrival of the T10 streetcar line in 2023 will allow residents to easily reach Grand Paris via the RER B train line.

Constructed using 50% renewable energy and reused materials, this new neighborhood attentive to the planet and the quality of life of its inhabitants, perfectly integrated into its environment, is set to arrive in Châtenay-Malabry in 2022. Since the eco-district will be open to the town, all the residents of the neighboring districts will be able to take advantage of it.
