Arcadis continues to lead in the global effort to remediate sites and environments from PFAS
29 January 2025 – Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a shared $150 million Architect-Engineer (A/E) multiple-award task order contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District.
Environmental A/E services within the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Southwestern Division continue to expand, driven by increasing demands from military, civil works, and other federal agencies throughout the region. The ongoing expansion of the Department of Defense (DoD) facilities necessitates expanded environmental architecture and engineering services.
Arcadis will be responsible for key areas including:
- Conducting environmental assessments and environmental impact statements to facilitate military installation expansion;
- Assessing the extent of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and their potential impacts on drinking water for military facilities and adjacent communities;
- Performing remedial investigations and designs to identify and address munitions presence on formerly used defense sites (FUDS), guiding removal actions and mitigating explosive safety risks on private property.
Notably, the contract will focus on complex projects including PFAS investigations and hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste studies, aligning with Arcadis’s commitment to tackle emerging environmental challenges.
The use of innovative tools such as Arcadis’ Digital CSM (Conceptual Site Model) will be integral to remedial investigations, enabling the team to deliver more efficient site characterization and design solutions. The tool combines analytical data, GIS maps, Environmental Visualization System (EVS) models, PowerBI dashboards, and a digital document library into a web-based application to provide real-time access to data and support faster decision making.
Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said: “This contract underscores Arcadis’s leadership in addressing complex environmental challenges, including PFAS contamination, which remains a pressing global concern. Drawing on decades of experience in PFAS investigation and remediation across the US, Europe, and Australia, we bring unparalleled expertise in tackling contamination in groundwater, drinking water and soil. Our commitment to sustainable, intelligence-driven solutions is key to ensuring safer environments for military facilities and the surrounding communities.”
As managing partner of the Versar-Arcadis Joint Venture, Arcadis was one of four large firms selected for the five-year contract. The contract will deliver critical environmental engineering services within the USACE Southwestern Division, while also supporting projects throughout the Continental United States and US Territories.
The contract’s scope encompasses a broad range of environmental services, with support for the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.
