20 February 2024 – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD) has been awarded a large multi-million-pound contract to manage and protect more than 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs in England and Wales.
Arcadis has been providing vital services to the Canal and River Trust (the Trust) since 2011. The new eight-year contract will cover multi-disciplinary projects from bridge safety and reservoir engineering to waste management, hydrology, and hydraulic engineering. The primary services Arcadis will be providing as part of the framework include site investigation, exploratory works, project appraisal, detailed design, project management, asset management and functional business support across a range of the Trust’s delivery programs.
One of the first priorities will be working with the Trust to support and establish processes to ensure that its commitment to net zero is incorporated into delivery by the supply chain partners. Arcadis will also be bringing digital solutions as part of the framework, working with the Trust to explore how digital products can improve asset performance and drive efficiency in delivery.
More than 150 Arcadis specialists, primarily across the UK but also working with colleagues globally, will work with the Trust. As well as managing canals in England and Wales, the Trust has a portfolio that includes more than 2,500 listed buildings. Many of its assets are up to 250 years old, meaning the safety and maintenance Arcadis is contracted to carry out are of critical importance.
The framework agreements are aligned to the new three-year strategy Arcadis launched in November last year, prioritizing Key Clients and delivering sustainable project solutions.
Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said: “We have a long history of water infrastructure management, drawing not only on our Dutch heritage, but also landmark projects ranging from our work in Belgium to upgrade the Albert Canal and design lock access at the port of Zeebrugge, to designing and managing the 107km Seine-Nord canal between France and the Benelux countries. This latest win builds on an established relationship with a key UK client and has tested our thinking to ensure we bring a refreshed offer to the client, putting sustainability considerations at the forefront to help meet the challenges of today and of the future.”
