Built assets are indispensable in our society. Think of our transport or drinking water infrastructure, our power supply networks or the buildings we work in. These assets are key to an acceptable quality of life. Management and maintenance are critical for reducing inadequate performance or unnecessary costs.

The pressure on our built assets is increasing and this is all to do with rapid urbanization, climate change, water scarcity and globalization. These challenges have only accelerated thanks to COVID-19 and the uncertainties associated with the pandemic. Companies and governments need to address these challenges in order to combat accelerated degradation of assets. This means making their assets future-proof; an important part of which involves embracing technology and digitalization.

Unfortunately, maintenance of built assets is still often inadequate due to a lack of focus or outdated practices and methodologies. This leads to inadequate performance or unnecessary costs. Effective asset management is key here.

Arcadis researches the art of optimizing assets and controlling risks and costs in order to create or increase value. Among other things, we also assess whether assets are resistant to the effects of climate change, cybercrime and new ways of working, and whether they can adapt to energy transition and disruptive technologies. All of this forms the basis of a specific program for development, realization, adaptation, operation (management and maintenance) and reorientation to new needs. In this way Arcadis ensures that assets make an optimal contribution to business objectives across their entire life cycle.
