In 2017 illness impacted more than 580 million people of working age, costing the global economy more than $12 trillion (USD).
With the numbers continuously rising, illness now contributes to the death of 2.8 million workers yearly. Working with WBCSD and 23 other leading companies, Arcadis is exploring how to boost global health as part of the Healthy People, Healthy Business project.
“Good Health and well-being are the foundation of happiness and prosperity for people, but are also critical for sustainability”, says Philip Houtermans, Global Director Health & Safety, at Arcadis, “By fully integrating health and well-being into business decision making, we will be able to connect the environmental and social domains of sustainability and build long-term economic resilience.”
The Healthy People, Healthy Business project explores how businesses can:
- Embed a culture of health and well-being in the workplace;
- Support healthy consumer lifestyles;
- Build resilient and accessible health systems;
- Accelerate action on climate, nature, and equity
