Hefty facility replacement or repairs are widely needed
Many survey recipients noted that more than 50% of their facility infrastructure needs replacement or significant repair.
By focusing too much on the disruption of technology in global industrial infrastructure markets, are we overlooking a tide that is already eroding the profitability shoreline?
Right now, the most disruptive force is a different kind of AI: Aging infrastructure. To get a clearer view of the aging infrastructure threat, we conducted a survey among facility and asset management leaders from the aerospace, manufacturing and automotive industries.
Many survey recipients noted that more than 50% of their facility infrastructure needs replacement or significant repair.
The top three assets ranked as the most significant points of pain (repair/replacement frequency, costs, compliance issues, business disruption potential, workforce impact) were roofs/building envelopes, buried utilities (water, storm, sanitary) and HVAC systems and cooling systems (tied).
77% of survey respondents see a failure of industrial facility infrastructure that impacts their operational production at least once every six months, and all respondents noted that if their facility experienced a critical failure (fire, roof collapse, utility, etc.) it would result in a significant shutdown or have a similar impact on operations.
56% percent of respodents noted that aging infrastructure “occasionally” is the root of EHS&S concerns, and 34% noted EHS&S concerns are “regularly” due to aging infrastructure.
Control and sustain your assets
Our findings suggest this problem is agnostic to market sector, save for some companies in the tech and digital sectors. But our findings provide cautionary insights that can be applied to any sector. All sorts of companies are facing aging infrastructure issues, and mostly fall into one of three primary groups:
Managing their aging infrastructure
Controlling their aging infrastructure
Transforming their aging infrastructure
It can be easy to take for granted your facilities’ infrastructure, but what is the true cost of an infrastructure failure? Infrastructure is often unseen, but its quiet deterioration could slowly drown your organization’s risk profile and profitability.
