Arcadis has been awarded a Land Quality Assessments (LQA) Call off Contract by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
Arcadis will serve as the sole supplier of LQAs across the DIO's entire UK operational estate. This critical endeavour seeks to evaluate the land quality across the defence estate, ensuring its suitability for use and environmental safety.
The scale and impact of this initiative are substantial considering the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) vast land holdings. As of 1 April 2024, the MoD managed 342,000 hectares of land within the UK. In total, this is about 1.4% of the UK land mass. It is imperative to assess and mitigate any potential land contamination arising from historical and ongoing military activities to ensure the estate is safe from environmental harm.
The LQA project directly contributes to improving the quality of life for the end-users and citizens by quantifying contaminated land risks and associated liabilities in a logical and rational manner. This approach enables informed decision-making, instilling confidence in the process and ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.
With a firm commitment to excellence, Arcadis has attained a 100% tender score on Technical and Social Value. This exceptional achievement reflects the organisation's unwavering dedication to delivering value and expertise in every aspect of the project.
Cath Greaves, Managing Director for Environment in the UK & Ireland, said:
