Arcadis’ Design Practice strengthens team with senior hires

London, 23 August 2021 – Arcadis’ Places Design Practice has strengthened its team with three senior hires, further enhancing its growing reputation as a market leader. With the transformation of the Design Practice led by Christine Dryden, Ian Hurst joined to lead the MEP team, Anthony Douglas to lead Building Structures, and Paul Dunn to lead on Design, joining Claire Stubbins as lead of Interior Design.

Ian Hurst joined from Mott MacDonald, where he was part of the MEP leadership team and involved in healthcare projects nationally and internationally. He has joined an established MEP team with a tremendous portfolio of projects, working for many blue-chip clients.

Anthony Douglas joined Arcadis from AECOM, where he was leader of the Cambridge Building Structures team. His team tackled complex international and UK projects with values up to £500 million. Anthony has over 25 years’ experience gained on a wide variety of sectors and building types. These include award winning buildings, projects with heritage status, and major infrastructure projects.

Claire Stubbins has over 12 years’ experience working in the retail sector both in the UK and Internationally. Having spent most of her career client-side in the property services division in some of the UK’s major blue-chip retailers, Claire held numerous positions across the store design, formats and retail planning teams.

Paul Dunn brings over 30 years’ experience, including 8 years with London firm TP Bennett and 24 years with the global design firm CRTKL where he was promoted to Director in 2007. His specialty is HQ, research and academic buildings as well as workplace interiors. He also brings a major portfolio of commercially driven work including mixed‐use, retail and hospitality.

Arcadis’ Buildings Design practice was launched in 2019 and now has 100 colleagues spanning architecture, interior design, mechanical, electrical, public health, and structural engineering. These multidisciplinary design experts span multiple and diverse sectors.

  • Decarbonisation at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT) – helping LTHT reduce their carbon emissions across the St James Hospital and Chapel Allerton site
  • Waltham Forest 10-year housing plan – supporting London Borough Waltham Forest by creating a 10-year plan to meet housing targets, works included a comprehensive estates review and an appraisal of the capital and funding commitments
  • Philips, Farnborough Aerospace Centre - a new office fit-out to provide high quality space focused on multinational collaboration over 2 floors
  • New office and industrial facility, Welsh Government - Rhyd-Y-Blew is a new 2-storey office and 50,000 sq ft industrial facility in the heart of Wales

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) recently awarded Arcadis ‘Chartered Practice’ status, recognising quality, ethics and best practice.
