Arcadis has won its first tender on National Grid’s Environmental & Planning Support Services (EPSS) Framework for the Western Gas Network Upgrade (WGNU) project.
National Grid plans to deliver reinforcement works to the gas network between Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire and Churchover in Warwickshire to facilitate more gas flow within the National Transmission System (NTS). The project is spread over a large geographical area and crosses several counties and local planning authority areas in Wales and England.
The project is a continuation of Arcadis’ initial commission to deliver option engineering, which enabled the company to understand the key issues for the project. The company will now provide a broad range of technical services including environmental planning.
Arcadis has also secured a contract on the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement Project which is approx. 29km 400kV electricity transmission connection between Bramford in Suffolk and Twinstead in Essex. The new connection is needed to facilitate new power generators and interconnectors to the national transmission network in East Anglia. Arcadis is providing specialist services across water and environment sectors.
Arcadis secured its position on the Framework in Q4 last year.
Shane Larkin, Account Lead for the National Grid EPSS, said:

“National Grid operates one of the safest, most efficient and reliable power networks in the world, and has a critical role to play in the decarbonisation of the economy to reach net zero. To achieve the UK’s net zero objectives there is a need for significant investment in new infrastructure to future-proof our network capability. Such significant investment can only be delivered with the valued support of the suppliers on our Environmental & Planning Support Services Framework. Arcadis has been a valued supplier, supporting National Grid’s environmental and planning work for many years and has consistently delivered first class support to our consenting projects. We look forward to continuing this productive and highly collaborative relationship.”
