Arcadis names Dr. Ufuk Erdal director for water reuse

Dr. Erdal brings 23 years of experience to Arcadis’ water business line.

Highlands Ranch, Colorado — April 1, 2019 — Arcadis North America has named Ufuk Erdal, Ph.D., as senior vice president and national technical director for water reuse. In this role, Dr. Erdal will help Arcadis clients advance their reuse capabilities to develop and deliver effective and affordable water reuse programs, from strategy to full implementation, to meet the challenges of a world with an uncertain water future.

Dr. Erdal is located in California and continues the Arcadis strategic commitment to grow the California market with communities like Los Angeles and their $2 billion plan to recycle 100 percent of its wastewater by 2035.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Erdal to Arcadis,” said John McCarthy, president of Arcadis’ water business line. “His experience with water reuse is unparalleled and he’s going to enhance our existing expertise allowing us to serve our clients in new, unprecedented ways.”

Dr. Erdal has more than 23 years of experience in planning, pilot testing, designing, costing and delivering advanced treatment facilities for water reuse applications.

“As the water sector embraces a one water mindset and focuses on developing localized, sustainable water solutions, Dr. Erdal is a timely and important addition to the Arcadis family,” said McCarthy. “His experience creating innovative strategies and treatment solutions strengthens our ability to help clients create a more human-centric future.”

“There is no denying the importance of reuse as our water challenges continue to grow,” said Dr. Erdal. “There is no one-size-fits-all answer, and I strongly believe in using any range of innovative solutions to solve problems and create a sustainable and resilient water future. I can’t wait to get to work with the talented team of experts at Arcadis.”

Dr. Erdal is the co-author of three Water Environment Federation (WEF) manuals and chapter author of the “Potable Reuse Research Compilation: Synthesis of Findings — Final Report” by the Water Environment and Reuse Foundation.

He has also authored more than 60 peer-review, conference and technical papers, and is a graduate of the Istanbul Technical University (B.S. environmental engineering), Ohio State University (M.S. civil engineering) and Virginia Tech (Ph.D. civil engineering).

He is the board director of the WRF and active members of the American Membrane Technology Association, California Water Environment Association, National Water Research Institute, WateReuse Association, WEF and Water Research Foundation.
