- Arcadis and AECOM partner in Pape North Connect consortium for progressive design-build project in Toronto, Canada
- Ontario Line project expected to take 28,000 cars off the road a day and reduce GHG emissions by 14,000 tonnes per year
15 February 2024 – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD), a leading global design and consultancy organization for natural and built assets, is pleased to announce that it is part of the winning consortium selected by Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx to design and build the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations contract for the Ontario Line, a 15.6-kilometre rapid transit subway line that will connect the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) at Don Mills Road to Exhibition/Ontario Place in Toronto, Canada’s largest city.
Arcadis is a member of the Pape North Connect consortium that has signed a Development and Master Construction Agreement (DMCA) with Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, under a progressive design-build contract. The Pape North Connect team includes:

The scope of work for the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations contract includes three kilometres of twin tunnels, two tunnel portals and two new underground subway stations (Pape and Cosburn Stations), as well as supporting emergency exit/ service buildings and a rail switch/crossover. The anticipated benefits of the new Ontario Line subway route include faster, more frequent, less crowded and reliable access to rapid transit for the 227,500 people who will live within a 10-minute walk of one of the planned Ontario Line stations. Further, significant economic and community growth is expected to be created along the future transit line, with meaningful environmental benefits expected to accrue due to an anticipated reduction in local traffic congestion, greenhouse gases and fuel consumption.
Arcadis’ participation in the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations contract will include implementing advanced digital tools to enable real-time data integration, 3D visualization, and data-driven decision-making to improve workflows, and optimize project collaboration and production efficiencies around environmental and design plans.
