Corporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) is often a value creation accelerator for many organizations. Strong ESG propositions can increase operating profits, however creating the value can often be a challenging process to manage as organizations define, measure and report on ESG components most relevant to their business.

Such value creation, however, is often a challenging process to manage as organizations define, measure and report on those components of ESG most relevant to their business. The application of digital technologies is required and is becoming a fundamental component of most ESG digital transformation strategies.

ESG digital transformation enables organizations to realize multiple benefits, including:

  • Achieve value creation
  • Improve business performance
  • Control ESG risk
  • Provide evidence of ESG performance

The fundamentals of ESG management

Identify

ESG indicators are assessed and those determined as being most relevant to business success are identified.

Manage

Once the relevant ESG indicators have been identified, now comes the task of collecting these indicators from across the business

Manage

This phase addresses how this information will be aggregated and managed.

Measure

Once ESG content is identified, collected, and effectively managed, an organization must then put into place the common protocols needed to measure changes over time, and specifically, achievement to pre-established goals.

Report

Reporting across an organization’s ESG management program is the most visible show of success (or not) in achieving both internal and external commitments.

When taken individually, each phase may appear easily consumable. However, when one takes into consideration that ESG management is a continuous lifecycle of improvement inclusive of all these elements, the task may quickly become overwhelming. By applying digital transformation practices across this full lifecycle, ESG program management becomes far more manageable allowing organizations greater transparency in their business practices, value creation and performance objectives.

Redefining the possible in ESG management through digital transformation

This paper examines research surrounding ESG digital transformation and explores how our ESG service offerings can enable the digital transformation of ESG management programs, processes and practices to be an accelerator in value creation and business performance.
