Holland Casino is setting the bar exceptionally high for its new branch in Venlo. The gambling giant wanted to set a global standard by combining sustainability, technology and architecture in a unique way. The ultimate goal was to create a casino that is in harmony with nature and where employees and visitors feel comfortable.
Holland Casino has embraced the local government's cradle-to-cradle ambitions and is striving to implement sustainable solutions in its new casino on Floralaan. The 25-meter-tall building will become a real landmark of Venlo, with a striking flower shape and eye-catching LED lighting on all sides. The flowing shapes extend naturally to the landscape, forming an organic whole with the surrounding landscape and natural elements. The expressive design is combined with a spectacular interactive facade.
Holland Casino has also taken environmental considerations into account in the construction of the complex, which is situated in the transition area between the business park and the important Maas Natura 2000 nature reserve. It is also located on the flight path of a bat colony, so bat corridors have been placed on and around the location of the building. The biometric building sets a new standard for the real estate of the future and Holland Casino hopes that it will inspire the next generation to create a world that is in harmony with nature.
Arcadis contributed to the project with advice on construction, installations, sustainability, landscape architecture, building physics, acoustics and fire safety. We also deployed our new digital solutions and created a material passport in BIM, providing an innovative insight into all aspects of maintenance, replacement, financial frameworks and agreements.
The building and its innovative facade will create new opportunities for partnerships and business cases that enrich the user and guest experience. The casino has been designed with sustainability in mind. With a roof generates solar energy, a hybrid ventilation and heating system, a cooling system that uses rainwater as well as the renewable building materials used in its construction, this casino is the most sustainable of its kind within Europe. Thanks to its location on a major highway near the German border, the new casino is also easily accessible for guests from home and abroad.
